PROGRAMS

Overview

Families come to us in many different situations, and many have the same question: What do we do now?

Our family programs support families navigating BPD, chronic emotion dysregulation, crisis, suicidality and recovery. These structured, evidence-based programs combine education, practical skills, and support, grounded in compassion and lived experience.

The programs are designed for families with related and different needs. Which is right for you?

Many families recognize their own experience in one of these situations.

If your loved one struggles emotionally and you want help understanding chronic emotion dysregulation or traits of borderline personality disorder, Family Connections™ may be a good place to start—especially if your goal is to improve everyday interactions and reduce conflict.

If you are living with ongoing fear for your child’s safety, or your family has experienced suicide attempts, self-harm, life-threatening behaviors, or repeated hospitalizations, Managing Suicidality & Trauma Recovery may be a better fit.

Some families take both programs at different times. If you’re unsure where to begin, you’re not alone—each program is designed to meet families where they are. Each program stands on its own and is designed to support families where they are.

On-Demand Programs

For Family Members:

If you’re a family member or other loved one of a person with borderline personality disorder, this is a great place to start. Designed to equip families with actionable tools, the ‘Open Your Mind Before You Open Your Mouth‘ series demonstrates how DBT-based communication and emotion regulation skills foster healthier household environments.

For Individuals with Lived Experience:

If you’re struggling with intense emotions that feel out of control, this can help. Dealing with Emotions is a series of videos created by Dr. Alan Fruzzetti to help you understand your emotions and build skills to tolerate and process them. The six-video series is free and available on demand.

Family Connections™

This program is designed for family members, partners, and loved ones of individuals who struggle with traits of borderline personality disorder or chronic emotion dysregulation.

Participants learn how emotion dysregulation affects behavior, relationships, and communication and how to respond in ways that reduce conflict while preserving compassion and healthy boundaries.

The program emphasizes practical relationship skills drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), along with education that helps families make sense of what they are experiencing.

A supportive group format is led by trained facilitators to provide education and connection with other families facing similar challenges. The course is available in several formats, including a 12-week live class meeting two hours per week, a blended option with asynchronous learning followed by eight weeks of live sessions, and a weekend format. Each option covers the same content while using different delivery methods to support busy families.

Managing Suicidality & Trauma Recovery Program

This program is designed specifically for parents who are living with the impact of their son or daughter’s suicidal behavior, self-harm, or repeated safety crises, regardless of diagnosis.

The course addresses the parents’ fear, stress, and trauma that often accompany these experiences, while also teaching skills to help parents regulate their own emotions, reduce trauma-based reactions, and strengthen their connection with their son or daughter. Research shows that a strong support system can be a protective factor against suicide.  In addition to education about suicidality and emotion dysregulation, parents learn tools to manage intense emotions and begin restoring a sense of stability.

The program uses a supportive group format in either a blended option with asynchronous learning followed by eight weeks of live sessions, or as a two-day weekend intensive. Each option covers the same content while using different delivery methods to support busy parents.
