Managing Suicidality & Trauma Recovery (MSTR)

For parents navigating safety crises.

Managing Suicidality & Trauma Recovery is a free, evidence-based program developed by BPD Alliance that provides education, skills, and shared support to help parents navigating a teen or adult child’s suicidality, self-harm, or repeated safety crises. If you are living with ongoing fear, anxiety, or uncertainty about your teen or adult child’s safety, you are in the right place. Many parents arrive here feeling exhausted and unsure of the next step. You don’t need to have clarity or confidence to begin—you just need to show up.

From Overwhelmed to Empowered

Our curriculum combines Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles with peer support to help you move from crisis mode to a place of sustainable care.

Expert Education: Understand the science of suicidality, trauma, and emotion dysregulation.

Practical DBT Skills: Learn to respond to your child with empathy and compassion while observing your own limits.

Trauma Recovery: Tools to manage your own stress, grief, and “caregiver burnout.”

Peer Community: Connect with facilitators and parents who truly understand your lived experience.

Is this the right fit for you?

While this program provides tools for trauma recovery and managing the aftermath of a crisis, Managing Suicidality & Trauma Recovery is not a bereavement or suicide-loss support group. This curriculum is specifically designed for parents and caregivers who are currently supporting a teen or adult child living with suicidality or emotion dysregulation.

If you are currently supporting a child in crisis, please proceed to enrollment.

If you have experienced the loss of a child to suicide, we honor your journey and want to ensure you receive the specific type of support you need. We recommend reviewing our Resources for Suicide Loss or contacting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) for dedicated bereavement groups.
